Week 5 NFL Betting predictions

49ers (-6.5) (-110)

The 49ers are traveling east for this matchup, which has hurt teams from the west before because they have to travel east and lose sleep/time, but they benefit from the game not beginning until 4:05 PM. Now, to the football aspect, the 49ers have the most dominant defense in the league to this point in the season and the Panthers have a terrible passing attack and offense as a whole. The 49ers offense looked better last week than in week 3 and should continue to grow as Jimmy Garropolo continues to reacclimate himself in the offense.

Patriots -3.5 (-105)

The Lions have shown that their offense is capable of putting up points, but the Patriots have shown that they have a good defense. Also, the Patriots are coached well and should be able to scheme up some tough looks for Jared Goff, as Belichick and his staff have done before. Jared Goff has a passer rating of 57.5, 298 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in 2 career regular season games against the Patriots, which does not even include the Super Bowl where his offense scored 3 points, so Belichick clearly has his number. The Lions have a very bad defense and the Patriots should be able to score enough where they can cover the spread.

Cowboys +5.5 (-110)

The Rams offense is struggling, while the Cowboys defense is playing stellar to this point in the season. The Rams are struggling to protect Matt Stafford, have a weak rushing attack, and lack a downfield threat at receiver. The Cowboys offense has not been amazing, but it has been good enough with Cooper Rush at quarterback. The Cowboys should be able to keep this one close, and possibly win, in what could be a low scoring affair in Los Angeles.

Bengals Ravens over 47.5 (-118)

This divisional matchup should be a fun primetime matchup. The Ravens offense has looked very good, for the most part, this season. Lamar Jackson has shown his great play-making ability in the passing and rushing attack and while the Bengals do have a good defense, the Ravens should be able to still put up points. The Bengals offense has not looked good, but not great, although they have the weapons to turn the switch on at any second. I am hoping that the Bengals use more creativity in their offense and take advantage of the Ravens weak defense, so that both teams can total 48 or more points combined.

Similar to previous weeks, as we get closer to Sunday, I will share more prop bets on twitter @JohnWilsonSport and other spreads, over/unders, and parlays, depending on line and odds movements.
